The GoMed team kicked-off the month of May by having our first meeting focused on the Cambodian culture! In past meetings we have learned some Cambodian phrases and some tips on what is not polite in Cambodia. This meeting specifically covered the Cambodians current spiritual beliefs, historical and cultural background, as well as traditional Cambodian customs.
DO greet others by taking a prayer pose with your hands in front of your chest
DON'T shake hands or hug when greeting Cambodians
DO take your shoes off when entering someone's home
DON'T have your feet between you and the person/group you are talking to while seated
DO greet others appropriately depending on their age
DON'T touch anyone's head unless they are a small child
There is still lots to learn before we leave and even more we will learn once we are immersed in Cambodian culture! The team is looking forward to it!
Additionally, our visa's have been approved and returned, we received our malaria prophylaxis prescriptions, and we got an update on the funds we have raised so far. We are working on collecting and storing much needed medical supplies. See our Amazon wish list information in the top righthand corner of this page if you want to help in that way! Things are moving right along!
Goodbye! "Jim rip leah!"
